Houston Business Woman Trades Evan Piccone
Business Suits for Miniature Donkeys!
by Jani Schulz, Editor-in-Chief
According
to Houston businesswoman, Carolyn Christian, her
love for miniature donkeys prompted her to trade
in her Evan Piccone business suits for jeans!
Actually the story goes like this: The
Christians bought their ranch near Hearne, Texas
in 1988. The ranch was meant to be a weekend
hideaway; a place to escape the hectic life of
the big city for the serenity and beauty of
ranch life. At the time, Carolyn worked as a
senior development director and her husband,
Pete, worked in construction management. Then, a
few years later, they both decided that they had
enough stress of the big city. So, they packed
up and moved to the ranch.
I had read an article on them published
previously, and the quote from Carolyn made me
laugh and still keeps me smiling. Carolyn said,
"I've been a country girl all my life; although,
I was born and raised in Houston. I feel like
Cinderella in ropers. I've exchanged my Evan
Piccone business suits for jeans."
Why miniature donkeys? Well, Carolyn tells it
like this: "I knew very little about the animals
until someone showed me a picture of a miniature
donkey and a baby." "From that moment on, I
vowed I wouldn't stop searching until I had some
of my own."
Like so many of you who raise miniature
donkeys feel, Carolyn also feels that they have
become a big part of her life. The temperament
and personality of the Sicilian Donkey is kind
and gentle and loving. Anyone who has ever owned
a miniature donkey will tell you the same, "they
are one of the best pets and companions out
there."
I talked with Carolyn for a while the other
day, and it is evident that her enthusiasm and
involvement is only strengthening in the
Miniature donkey world. Carolyn, Pete and their
Quarter Moon Ranch have the most fabulous
marketing brochure. When you read their
brochure, you see so clearly how much they enjoy
and love what they do. I think that is what
makes Quarter Moon miniatures so special.
I asked Carolyn some questions about the
miniature donkey industry that will be continued
in next months Exotic & Livestock Magazine's
Miniature Donkey Section. This interview will
help others who raise miniature donkeys and also
those of you considering purchasing some of your
own. But this month, I wanted to end Part 1 of
the Quarter Moon Ranch article with truly the
greatest piece of work I have ever read about
miniature donkeys, and it is copied directly
from the Quarter Moon Ranch brochure. I am sure
it must be written by Carolyn, and straight from
her heart.
